Cover: Bare Trees, Red Leaves, Acadia, Maine, 1997.
Photograph © Charles Cramer, 2002.
This image was made in late Autumn near Acadia National Park in Maine. It was also late in the day, after sunset. A maple with a few remaining red leaves was facing into a clearing. The light was rather blue, so I used my color temperature meter to determine just how blue. A warming filter brought the gray tones mistaken for black-and-white - except for the saturated red leaves, and the green vegetation at the bottom. I have printed this image as a dye transfer, which gives slightly more brilliance due to the blacker blacks dye transfer affords.
